Eleanor Rose Atwood "Ellie"

Eleanor Rose Atwood, 91, went to be with her Lord on Friday March 17, 2017 after a brief illness. She was born in Middletown, NY on May 12, 1925 to Harold and Elizabeth Sparks. She graduated from Middletown High School and married her high school sweetheart, Howard W. Atwood in 1944 and they were blessed with five children and led a very active life. Ellie was a member of the Middletown Garden Lover’s Club, a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, past president of the Middletown Jayncees, an active volunteer as a “Gray Lady” at Horton Hospital ( ORMC), a substitute teacher, and enjoyed a 12 year career in real estate with Currier & Lazier Realtors. She was an avid bridge player, enjoyed gardening, bowling, tennis, golf and was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will always be remembered for her energy, positive attitude, beautiful smile, and willingness to help other people. She was predeceased by her husband, Howard in 2001. She will be forever missed by daughters Patricia Linn and her husband Larry, Punta Gorda, Fl.; Yvonne Wakeman and her husband, Gary, Estero, Fl.; Gail Congalosi and her husband Frank, Waterford, NY; sons, Jeffrey Atwood and his wife Meg, Middletown,NY; Lawrence Atwood and his wife Michele Georges, Syracuse, NY ; six grandchildren: Mark (Debbie) Leo; Todd Leo; Whitney Atwood and her fiance, Andrew Sienkiewicz, Abbye Atwood, Tyler Atwood and Peter(Lindsey) Congalosi; and five great grandchildren: Samantha & Isabelle Leo, Cameron & Brianna Leo, and Morgan Congalosi. She was predeceased by her three brothers: Harold Sparks, Donald Sparks, Harry Sparks and special friend, Allen Honeywell. The family would like to thank Ellie’s Clemson Park neighbors for their kindness and care, her faithful bridge partners at Mulberry House Senior Center, the staff at the Promenade, the doctors, nurses and staff at Orange Regional Medical Center and most recently, the exceptional and loving care she received at The Valley View Center for Nursing Care and Rehabilitation, Goshen, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requested memorial donations can be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 90 Euclid Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940, Mulberry House Senior Center, 62-70 West Main Street, Middletown, NY 10940, or the charity of one’s choice.
