Lt Col Nicholas F. Sheil Jr.

Nicholas Francis Sheil, Jr., 94, son of Nicholas Francis Sheil, Sr. and Christine Mitchell Sheil passed away peacefully at Middletown Park Manor on October 31, 2014. He was born in Otisville, NY on April 3, 1920. He attended Otisville schools graduating at the age of 16. He was a skilled athlete, excelling at basketball and baseball. He was a lifelong member and past Commander of the Floyd Carter American Legion Post 1097, Otisville, NY and a member of the Middletown Elks Lodge 1097, where he and his wife, Evelyn spent many memorable times with their friends. He was also a member of Military Officers Association of America, the VFW, Knights of Columbus, Mount Carmel Church, Mountain Top Gun Club, Mount Hope Seniors, the Otisville Fire Department, the Middletown Volunteer Firemen’s Association and Eagle Engine Co. No.2. Middletown He entered the U. S. Army in 1939 and served in World War II and the Korean War rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was in the Quartermaster Corps and stationed at the United States Military Academy at West Point, as well as in Germany, Virginia and Alaska. During his military career he received many medals and commendations. He retired from the army in 1962 and was later employed by the state of New York as a supervisor at the Mid-Hudson Psychiatric Center and later youth correctional facilities in the area. He was predeceased by his mother and father, his first wife, Eleanor, his brother James Richard Sheil and his sister Delores Sheil Petersen. He is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn Sheil of Middletown, son Robert Sheil of Montpelier, Vermont, daughter Eileen Sheil Brown and her husband, Edmund Hunt Brown III of Williamsburg, VA, and grandsons Edmund Hunt Brown IV of Quinton, VA and Thomas Sheil Brown of Newport news, VA, and several nieces and nephews Friends are invited to call on Sunday November 2nd, from 2 - 5 PM at Morse Funeral Home Inc.., 33 Railroad Ave, Middletown, NY with American Legion services at 3:30 PM and Elk services at 4 PM A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, Middletown, NY, at 11 AM on Monday, November 3rd, with Interment to follow at Wallkill Cemetery Middletown, NY with full military honors.
