David May

David May was the son of Gracita E. May, and the late George May, born October 20, 1964, in Alaska while his parents were stationed in the army. David transitioned to a place of peace on February 7th, 2023 while in Newburgh, NY after a strong and brave fight with cancer. David received his education from Brooklyn, NYC public school system. He later went on to study Psychology at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn. David was a very athletic youngster, he enjoyed playing football, swimming and earned his certification as a lifeguard. David even tried boxing and made his mark in the Daily News after a K.O. in the first round. His mother worked hard to ensure that David enjoyed participating in sports, camps, and activities that would keep him away from the harsher realties of Brooklyn’s streets. Still a young man, David found himself when he began his professional career as a long-distance marathon runner. David participated in local races throughout NYC for several years until around 1990. David experimented with his creative side through cooking. He was a good cook, and he had a tender heart for pets, but also had strong mannerisms and he was never one to bite his tongue. David rarely raised his voice but would enjoy engaging in intellectual debates about EVERYTHING. David began New York State service in 1990 and after moving to upstate New York he was later transferred to Mid-Hudson Forensic Psychiatric Center. David was recognized by his colleagues in 2015 for 25 years state service. Many may agree that David had a generous nature and would give freely to those whom he loved. He was also an antagonist which left him sometimes misunderstood because he truly enjoyed teasing those close to him for the sheer fun of “driving the person crazy”, but that was his way of showing love. David will leave to mourn and cherish his memory his beloved mother Gracita May (Grace), his cousin’s Joi, and D’Angelo Dyson, two aunts Beulah Pinckney (Louis Pinckney) & Constance Manuel and a dear friend Cathy Burks.
