Mrs. Helen R. Cassidy

With the ultimate sadness we announce the passing of our mother Helen R. Curtin Cassidy. Mom passed on Friday August 14th 2015 after years of battling illnesses with grace courage and dignity. Mom was the the most amazing daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, mother in law and friend to all that met her. Everyone was welcome at her home. No matter who it was they were treated with kindness and respect. It's very hard to sum her up in a few paragraphs but those that knew her put it best. She was a class act to the very end. We as her children thank her for a lifetime of love and friendship. Aside from her children, her grandchildren were her pride and joy. It will be very hard to go on without her but all of us will do so with the same amount of grace that she showed us by example. We would also like to add for all our friends that know this first hand. Mom was the cake boss before there was one. All three of her children still had people ask if she was still able to bake them a cake because hers were like no one else. Half of Queens NY loved her cake the other half was in Orange Co NY. Her two families of adopted children (you know who you are). It was not unusual to come home and find her feeding someone in the kitchen and telling them stories. There will never be another like her. Mom was born in Manhattan (Yorkville) January 12, 1926 She passed at home with her three children as per her wishes. She is survived by her son James A. Cassidy and Patrice Dassa of Center Moriches, NY. Son Donald Cassidy of Bloomingburg, NY. Her daughter Cathleen Collaro of Bloomingburg, NY. Granddaughter Katlyn Cassidy of Grahamsville, NY Grandson Tyler Cassidy of Grahamsville. Former daughter in law Janine Brown Cassidy of Grahamsville, NY. Helen was predeceased by her husband of 57 years Donald F. Cassidy. Her beloved son in law whom she adored Joseph D. Collaro. John LeRoy who never failed to make her laugh and smile. Her parents Alfred L. Curtin and Helen M. Grady. We would like to express our gratitude to those who cared for her in her struggle against illness. The wonderful people at Hospice. We want to single out Mary Clabough L.P.N who gave her the most kind loving care every day and brought her joy as well. She's the ultimate example of what a nurse should be. Love to you Mary from all of us. The other Hospice staff we would like to thank are Kathleen Graham, Christine Hilsman R.N. Meg Bowers R.N and Michelle Mendez. We thank you all for your extreme kindness not only towards Mom but towards us. We would like to also thank Rajan Gulati MD and Bonnie Seecharran MD of Middletown Medical along with our favorite nurses Ruth and Anne for years of compassionate care not only towards mom but towards our father and grandmother. Last but not least we would like to thank our family, friends and neighbors for always being there through it all. We ask that donations be made in our mother's name to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, Inc.
