Jude Peter Kassebaum

Jude, 54, born on November 20, 1969, passed away on May 5, 2024, at approximately 3:00 a.m. at the Kaplan Hospice House. His wife of almost 30 years, Tina, was by his side. He was also surrounded by his mother, Mary “Chickie”, his “brothers,” Brian McCarthy and Joe Puliafico, his sister, Patty (Schuppe) and her husband Armando and his Godson, Connor McCarthy. Jude passed by listening to his favorite song, “I Can Only Imagine '' by MercyMe. Jude was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He was the son of Mary Stillwell Kassebaum (Chickie) and Jude Kassebaum. He grew up on Parkville Avenue, which was a block of families that loved each other and hung together for almost 20 years. He spent countless hours outside playing sports, such as hockey, baseball, basketball, skelly, manhunt, stoop ball and handball. Due to this background, Jude remained an avid sports fan. He constantly watched Met games, Dallas Cowboy games, and Ranger games. The last few years of his life, he made it a point to see all of his favorite teams live. He finally saw Dallas play at Dallas stadium with his nephews, Mitchell and Craig and his brother-in-law-Armando. His cousin, Anthony, made sure he made it to many baseball games and several Ranger games. So many others helped him achieve his “bucket list” before his passing. A blessing of knowing you do not have much time left in this world is to be able to do the things you really wanted before leaving. Jude was able to complete the majority of his bucket list with the help of so many that loved him. Towards the end, Jude displayed strength and courage and stuck to the mantra of, “Keep F**king Going!” He even made bracelets with that saying and handed them to friends and family. He was a very strong-willed man, who did not want sympathy. He wanted to show that no matter what hand you are dealt, you play the cards you were given and wait for the next round. Jude was an amazing uncle, Godfather, brother, son, friend, and most of all, husband. He was there for anyone who needed anything. He had a very strong faith in Jesus, which helped him until the end. It also helped him push through and work at Garnet Hospital during the COVID pandemic. He is remembered, loved and survived by his wife, Christina “Tina”, his mother, Mary “Chickie”, his father, Jude, his sisters and their husbands, Patricia “Patty” and Armando Schuppe, and Mary and Frank McNeill. He was loved by his nieces, Corinne “Corey” and Husband, Rohit Bhat, and Kristie and husband Cody Gonsuls and nephews, James Piren and wife, Jessica, Mitchell Eger and fiancé, Shannon, William Eger and fiance, Madison, Craig Schuppe and Thomas Schuppe. He was also adored by his “brothers”, Brian McCarthy and his children Alex and Connor and Joe Puliafico and family. He is predeceased by his mother-in-law, Flora Mowatt and by Brian’s wife, Colleen McCarthy. He was loved by many throughout his life, especially Aunt Theresa and Uncle Richie and their son. Anthony and daughter, Gina, Aunt Gerry, Aunt Pat and Aunt Mia. He also was survived by his second family, the McCarthy’s, Kelly and Dan Wallace and their children, Andrew and Cooper, his sister-in-law, Theresa “Tammy” Garcia and his brother-in-law, Michael Mowatt and his family. Jude is known for loving his pets. Through the years he has had many, but his favorite was T.J. T.J. passed right before Jude, so Jude will surely be meeting up with T.J. in heaven. T.J. 's pawprint, as well as his other pets will be with him in the casket to be with him for eternity. The viewing will be at Martinez-Morse funeral home in Middletown, NY on Friday, May 10th between 5-9 p.m. The memorial services will be at the gravesite on Saturday, May 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Hillside Cemetery in Middletown, NY. Jude asked if guests would wear comfortable clothing, and preferably Mets, Dallas, or Ranger gear at his wake and services. He hated dressing up and wants everyone to feel comfortable and relaxed as they say goodbye.
