Lucy Rodas

Luz Selenia Arimont Centeno, known to family and friends as Lucy, was born on April 10, 1942, to Luis and Emerita Arimont in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. She was the eldest of three sisters. She and her family moved to New York City in 1951. Her parents later adopted Luis’ niece, Lourdes, since his sister was sick and couldn’t care for her. Lucy met her first husband, Felix Rivera, in New York City. They had three sons, David, Ruben, and Philip. Years after Lucy and Felix divorced, she met and married Roberto Rodas. They were married for 27 years and were blessed with a daughter, Cynthia. They were very committed to fostering children. Lucy was employed by the New York City Department of Education as a School Aide. Lucy and Roberto served the Lord as longtime Iglesia Evangelical Pentecostal Sion members. On March 14, 2010, Roberto went home to be with the Lord. Lucy remained faithful to the Lord and her church. She served as a Sunday School teacher, the Director of Sunday School, and other areas within the church. She loved her church family very much and helped however she could. She regretted not being able to attend services after she got sick. Lucy went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at the age of 82 on May 30, 2024, at Highland Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Middletown, New York. She will always be remembered for her love for her family, her love of laughter and music, the delicious food she cooked, and most especially, her relationship with Jesus Christ. She prayed every day for the needs of her family and friends. Although she left this life, and we miss her, we have the assurance that we will see her again. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, Luis and Emerita Arimont, husband Robert Rodas, sister Gloria Ramos, daughter-in-law Madeline Rodas, and grandson Gabriel Aquino Ruiz. She is survived by her sisters Maria Maine and Lourdes Corallo; children David Rivera (Daphne), Ruben Rivera (Arlene), Philip Rivera (Janet), and Cynthia Aquino Ruiz (Yeison Sr.); grandchildren Ruben Jr., Jennifer, Brian, Rachel, Elena, Amanda, Lauren, Zariah, Zara, Yeilessiah, Yeison Jr., Yleanah; great-grandchildren Elijah, Kaeden, Julian, and Gabriel; and adopted children Nelson Rodas, Gladys Rodas, Yolanda Rodas, Jacqueline Rodas, Lucinda Rodas, Belinda Rodas, Janet Rodas, and Rosemary Rodas. Lucy’s funeral service will be held at Martinez-Morse Funeral Home, 33 Railroad Avenue, Middletown, New York 10940, on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., with an interment to follow at Wallkill Cemetery at noon.
