Sandy Gibbs

Marilyn Sanderson Gibbs, affectionately known as Sandy, age 80, of Unionville, NY, was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on November 6, 2022. Born in Troy, NY, she was the daughter of the late Franklyn and Elisabeth Sanderson. She graduated from SUNY New Paltz with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, then completed her Master of Science in Nursing at SUNY Binghamton. She was employed at Horton Medical Center, working as a Registered Nurse for over 29 years. After her retirement, she followed a calling for Missionary work. Sandy oversaw Project Help which was a child sponsorship program that met many of the physical, educational, and spiritual needs of orphans living in Chipata, Zambia. She also served as a counselor, teacher, and friend to many others who lovingly called her Mama Sandy. Sandy’s love for her Savior was behind her desire to spread the Gospel wherever she went! She enjoyed volunteering with Samaritan’s Purse and the Sunshine Thrift Shop when she wasn’t traveling to watch and learn about the different species of birds. Sandy loved to be near the water, especially on the shores of the east coast. She will be remembered for her kindness and compassion for people, homemade Chex-Mix at Christmas, her fun antagonizing in the family fantasy football league, her card shark tendencies, her witty remarks, but most of all her heart in following Jesus. Sandy is survived by her children Daniel and his wife Beth Gibbs of Troutman, NC; Matthew and his wife Anna Gibbs of Wallkill, NY; Kemlo and her husband Shota Aki of Weare, NH; Kathy and her husband Steve Margolis of Ocala, FL; Jim and his wife Carolyn Gibbs of Chandler, AZ; Along with grandchildren Adam (Asheton) Gibbs, Ashley (Austin) Gardner, Abbey Gibbs; Lisa (Brandon) Horton, Kristina Gibbs, Tyler (Andrea) Gibbs, Helen Aki, Megan Aki, Jacob Aki; great-grandchildren, Sophia Easterday and Anthony Horton; her brother and sister-in-law, Franklyn and Elisabeth Sanderson of Troy, NY; many nieces and nephews; as well as her best friend, Anne Dusenbury. The family will welcome friends, Friday, November 11, 2022, for a Celebration of Life service at the Lindsay Pohlman Chapel at Goodwill Church located at 2135 N-208, Montgomery, NY 12549. Greetings will begin at 10:30am, with the service to follow at 11:30am.
