Eleanor Myrtle Bergman

Eleanor Myrtle Bergman, of Circleville, NY, passed away Friday, February 13th, at Valley View Center for Nursing Care and Rehabilitation, Goshen. Eleanor was born in Circleville, New York on August 24, 1915, a daughter of the late Eli Warring and Bertha May Ayers Bennett. She was the widow of Clarence Frank Bergman who predeceased her on September 14, 2003 At 99 years old, Myrtle was the last of the Circleville ladies. She was born there and never moved away. Next to her family, the Circleville Presbyterian Church was a large part of her life. She was a life long member and taught Sunday school and vacation bible school for over 60 years. She and her sister Hazel also taught bible study at Saint Teresa’s Nursing home and the Mid Hudson Psychiatric Center for over 20 years. She belonged to the Home Bureau, performed in local theatrical productions, was a 4-H leader and worked for the Orange County Board of Elections, on voting days, for over 50 years. Myrtle loved flowers and wild birds and filled her yard with flower gardens and bird feeders. She loved to cook and bake and, according to her granddaughters, her sticky buns “were the best”. She and Clarence loved to travel, especially to the Adirondacks, which she visited her entire life. She fondly remembered her trips across the United States and through Europe with her family. One thing Myrtle did not like to do, in spite of her love of traveling, was to drive. She would prefer that someone else would drive so that she could enjoy the wildlife and birds. She cherished her friends and family and probably her best friend in life, other than Clarence, was her sister Hazel, who we’re sure she spoke to every day of her life until Hazel’s death several years ago. Even at 99 years old, she will be missed by many. She is survived by her sons Jerry D. Bergman and his wife Mary of Middletown, NY and Bruce Bergman, of Stanfordville, NY; her granddaughters Jennifer, wife of Ryan Levesque, of Brewster; and Rory, wife of Mark Lawrence, of Syracuse; and three great grandchildren Grace, Hugo Colten and Merritt She was predeceased by her brothers Bert Bennett, Bruce Bennett and Frank Bennett and sister Hazel Verde Funeral services will be held at Circleville Evangelical Presbyterian Church at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 19th,2015 with Reverend Brian Hill officiating.
