Almedia Fair

Almedia Fair was born on June 17, 1946, the middle daughter of three daughters born to the late Albert and Grace Thompson. Almedia attended Far Rockaway High School, where she developed a love for learning and built lifelong friendships. While living in Hammel Houses in Rockaway Beach, her warmth, kindness, and humor drew people to her, creating bonds that would last a lifetime. In June of 1966, Almedia moved from Rockaway Beach to Brooklyn, New York, to be with the love of her life, Sidney Fair. Their union was blessed with two children, Sidney Fair Jr. and Cycerly Fair-Furlow, and together they shared 16 loving years of marriage until Sidney closed his was called home to be with the Lord in 1982. With strength, grace, and determination, Almedia continued to raise her two children as a devoted single mother, supported by her loving family and friends. Almedia’s professional journey began in Manhattan, where she worked in the Circulation Department at McNair Dorling Magazine Publishing Company. Her sharp eye for detail and exceptional spelling and grammar skills led her to also proofread articles before publication. After the company was sold in 1996, Almedia pursued her dream of being her own boss and founded The Huny Child Family Daycare Center, where she cared for generations of neighborhood children for 13 years. Her nurturing spirit and dedication left a lasting impact on every child she cared for. She retired at the age of 63. In the mid-2000s, Almedia joined the Jehovah’s Witnesses, where she found joy, peace, and purpose in her faith. She cherished attending talks, conventions, and singing songs of praise, but above all, she deeply loved Jehovah. Almedia was full of life and curiosity. She loved to travel, especially cruises with her sisters, Jean and Denise, and spontaneous road trips to Atlantic City. A self-taught graphic designer, Almedia found great joy in creating personalized wedding invitations, business cards, and programs for friends and family. Her creativity, attention to detail, and generosity shined through every design. In 2018, Almedia relocated to Middletown, New York, to be closer to her daughter Cycerly and her family. The bond between mother and daughter was extraordinary — they were not only family but best friends. They shopped together, visited family together, debated, laughed, and ended every call with “I love you.” Their connection was a beautiful example of unconditional love. Almedia was preceded in death by her beloved parents Grace and Albert Thompson, her husband Sidney Fair, her sister Ruby Jean Green, and her son Sidney Fair Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted daughter Cycerly Fair-Furlow; son-in-law Shawne Furlow; daughter-in-law Pamela Fair; sister Denise Mary Stevens; grandchildren Jamol, Equan, Jovon, Amir, Koen, and Tiaira; great-grandchildren Jacob, Blake, Joshua, and Erin; cousin Patricia Wharton; nieces Cyria and Kai; nephew Leon Green (Delphine); and cousins Vicky and Sierra. She also leaves behind a host of loving family members and friends whose lives she touched deeply. Almedia Fair will be remembered for her kind heart, unwavering faith, joyful spirit, and devotion to her family. Her legacy of love and strength will live on in all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten. May she rest peacefully in Paradise
