Anthony Joseph Santagato

Anthony Santagato (58), passed away on 3/28/2023 at home. He is the husband of Cari Khanittha Promdaeng-Santagato. They shared 10 years of marriage together. Born in Elmhurst, NY he was the son of Jean Conger and Salvatore Santagato. He graduated from Queens College with his master’s degree in social studies. He was employed by the NYC Department of Education and worked as a Social Studies Teacher. Music was Anthony’s passion. He connected through music and loved playing his guitar, and singing for crowds just about anywhere. He thoroughly enjoyed sports, especially tennis. Anthony enjoyed cooking all types of meals for friends and family. Being a handy man was one of his favorite hobbies. He could fix almost anything with his own insight and research. Going on nature walks and trips with his family was what Anthony enjoyed dearly. Chess was a hobby of his, and he loved to teach his son Preston on how to play. Teaching is what gave Anthony a true sense of purpose and fulfillment. He loved helping kids out who struggled due to their upbringings, and personal shortcomings. He gave back to the communities and enjoyed it with every ounce of his being. As an educator, he had three loves: love of learning, love of learners and the love of bringing the first two together. He’ll be remembered for his kind heart and beautiful soul. Anthony was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who only wanted the best for those around him. He is survived by his spouse Cari Khanittha Promdaeng-Santagato, children, Anthony DeSensi, Lauren Washington (Santagato), Nicholas Santagato, and Preston Promdaeng, grandchildren, Tyler and Leah Washington, Sisters, Sally South, Frances Santagato, Susan MacCarrick and dog Daisy. The graveside service will be held on April 10th, 2023, at 11am, at Woodlawn Cemetery 4199 Webster Avenue, Bronx, NY 10470. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation be made in Anthony name to the Brain and Behavioral Research Foundation at www.bbrfoundation.org. To my dearest beloved husband Anthony, When two people love each other as much as we do, no distance is great enough to come between them. Still, I miss you so much when we’re apart. I think of you off and on during the day, from the time I get up until I fall asleep. I wonder how you are and wish you could be with me. I find myself smiling each time I remember special moments we’re shared, Thoughtful ways you’ve shown your care, and how much fun I have just being with you. When we’re apart, I remember everything that made me fall in love with you the first place and I can hardly wait till we’re together again.
