Dr. C. Fred Crist

C. FRED CRIST, DVM December 27, 1933 - March 4, 2016 Monticello, NY - Formely of Campbell Hall, NY Dr. C. Fred Crist, a retired veterinarian, formerly of Campbell Hall and Goshen, NY and recently of Monticello, NY, died at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, NY on Friday, March 4, 2016 following a lengthy illness. Dr. Crist was born in Goshen on December 27, 1933, the son of the late John and Elsie Crist of Pine Bush. Dr. Crist, also known as "Doc" , had a private practice in Campbell Hall before his employment as a veterinarian with the NYS Harness Racing and Wagering Commission. He was a member of the NYS Veterinarian Association assigned to various race tracks including Monticello, Saratoga Springs and Belmont and worked the Hambletonian annually until his debilitating CVA (stroke) in 1991. "Doc" attended Pine Bush Central School and became an Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America. He graduated from Storm King Preparatory School in Cornwall. He was a graduate of Cornell University School of Veterinary Medicine with the class of 1957. While at Cornell, he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity and during the summer was a summer agent in Middletown for the Orange County 4-H Department. Before his illness, Dr. Crist was active in the community. He was a member and an elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Campbell Hall and a member of the Goshen Rotary. He was a committeeman for the Republican Party and a councilman for the Town of Hamtonburgh. He also was an avid bowler and belonged to a team at the Walden Hoe Bowl. Dr. Crist is survived by his wife, Rose Raimond of Monticello; daughter, Cherylanne Luciano of Albany; sister, Ruth (Wesley) Cawein and husband, Charlie of Anna Maria, FL; extended family: Gloria Cahalan (Pete) and Jane and husband, Rick Lake of Monticello. He is also survived by a grandson, Brandon Mullin Crist and a great granddaughter, a step granddaughter, Trish Cahalan and several nieces and nephews including, Jonnie Wesley-Krueger and husband, Jim of Pine Bush and D. Scott Wesley of Bradenton, FL. He was predeceased by his first wife, Barbara and son, Brian A. Crist. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17th at DeWitt-Martinez Funeral And Cremation Services, 64 Center Street in Pine Bush followed by the interment of ashes at the New Prospect Cemetery.
