Lorenza Aurea Carrasquillo

Lorenza Aurea Suárez was born to Alfredo Suárez and Aurea Pizarro on August 10, 1928, in Loíza, Puerto Rico. She departed this life on February 28, 2023. She was married to Jesús Manuel Carrasquillo on November 22, 1953, and they had five daughters. Lorenza’s death was preceded by her husband’s death. Following the American dream, the family relocated to Brooklyn, New York in June 1968. Lorenza dedicated her life to the well-being, education, and financial stability of her five daughters. She was a gentle, nurturing, loving mother. She held a deep love for her family and friends. She demonstrated her love by being kind, patient, and forgiving. Lorenza graduated from Boricua College (Brooklyn, NY) with an Associate Degree in Arts in June 1977, at the age of 49 years. Later, she trained as a bookkeeper. In addition, Lorenza volunteered to assist those in need. As an example, she volunteered as a Spanish interpreter for seniors in her neighborhood who had limited proficiency in English. Lorenza’s hobbies and activities included cooking, collecting recipes, sewing, and gardening. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by all who knew her. Lorenza is survived by her brother, Javier in Puerto Rico, and five daughters: Inés Milagros in Illinois, Tila Loren in Massachusetts, Ana Zoraida in Illinois, Lissie Jesusa in New York, and Sol Rina in New York. Eight grandchildren, four nieces, four nephews, three grandnieces, and six grandnephews in Wisconsin, Virginia, and Puerto Rico. Lorenza was also survived by her beloved dog, Chiquita, who was born on May 2004. Sadly, Chiquita departed this life on May 29, 2023. Her playfulness and loving nature will be missed by all. A Memorial Service honoring the life of Lorenza will be held in Middletown, New York on June 14, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. EST at Martinez-Morse Funeral Home. This will be followed by a Requiem Mass at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church and an interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. The service will be live-streamed and recorded for future viewing via YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pxaUx-_9A4). A scholarship honoring Lorenza and her husband, the Lorenza Aurea and Jesús Manuel Carrasquillo Memorial Scholarship, has been established at Boricua College.
