Wayne Keith Hodges

Wayne Keith Hodges, 72, of Middletown NY, passed away peacefully on a beautiful Sunday morning after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Wayne was born on December 12, 1953, in Newark, New Jersey, to Helen Avent and Calvin Hodges, and was lovingly raised by his stepfather, Mower Williams, whom he adored. He lived a life defined by strength, dedication, humor, and deep love for his family. Wayne proudly served his community as a Correction Officer for 30 years, working at Mid-Orange Correctional Facility and Otisville Correctional Facility. His commitment to service and discipline carried through every aspect of his life. A passionate and driven individual, Wayne was an avid fitness enthusiast, dedicated to road cycling and weightlifting. He was also a fourth-degree black belt in Kyokushin Karate, where he mentored and inspired many students through youth and adult classes at Orange County Community College. In addition to his martial arts achievements, he was a table tennis medalist, reflecting his competitive spirit and love for staying active. Wayne was incredibly funny and will be remembered for his animated storytelling, often bringing stories to life with sound effects that left everyone laughing. He cherished time with his family—especially wrestling and playing with his children and grandchildren, creating lasting memories filled with joy. He had a deep appreciation for music, especially classic funk, soul, and R&B, with favorites like Earth, Wind & Fire and Mandrill. He was known for playing his music loud whenever possible. Wayne was also a devoted fan of the San Francisco 49ers and had a strong interest in military aviation. Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Jane, and his six children, Tronya Lynn, mother of Tishante, Tonya Ray and her husband Kevin James, parents of Maykeyla Brandon Leigh and his wife Safa, parents of Samuel and Theodore, Lexie and her fiancé Richard, Jane Grace and Jordan Wayne. He is also survived by his sisters, Hilda and Shawna, along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Helen Avent, father Calvin Hodges and stepfather Mower Williams. A Memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 7th, 2026, from 1PM to 4PM at Martinez-Morse Funeral Home. Wayne will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His strength, humor, and unwavering love for his family leave behind a legacy that will never be forgotten. The family would like to thank Hospice of Orange & Sullivan for their kindness, compassion, and especially Nurse Catherine, who provided him with exemplary care.
